Promoting the Popularization and Awareness Expansion of “Face Type Diagnosis”
— Can you tell us about the initiatives?
Ms. Miko Okada (hereafter, Ms. Okada):
Our association aims to popularize “Face Type Diagnosis,” which analyzes face types based on features like contours and parts to provide fashion, hairstyle, and makeup advice. We also conduct training courses for Face Type Advisors.
We wanted to disseminate accurate information and the appeal of Face Type Diagnosis, so we launched the “Face Type Diagnosis Official Channel” on YouTube. This channel focuses on face type diagnosis, including personal color and body shape analysis, providing information on fashion and makeup.
— What prompted you to launch the YouTube channel, and what are your objectives?
Ms. Okada:
Given the current trends, I always felt the need to share information through videos. Many people have asked, “Why don’t you have a YouTube channel?” and “Please provide fashion explanations through videos.”
While I initially didn’t want to be in the spotlight, I changed my perspective to focus on promoting Face Type Diagnosis through videos.
We have two main objectives for our YouTube presence:
First, we want to make Face Type Diagnosis known to as many people as possible, especially to those who were previously unaware and to younger audiences.
Second, as awareness grows, we aim to provide deeper insights beyond the static information in magazines and social media. We want to show the evolving possibilities of fashion and how Face Type Diagnosis can be dynamic and transformative.
Communicating through spoken words is more effective for these goals than written text.
Yukako Makino, Mass Driver Co., Ltd. (hereafter, Yukako):
We launched the official Face Type Diagnosis YouTube channel from scratch, and in 10 months, it has reached 9,200 subscribers and a total of 650,000 views.
Initially, searching for “Face Type Diagnosis” on YouTube didn’t yield much useful information, but now our official channel appears at the top of the search results.
Ms. Okada:
This was a major reason people wanted us to start a YouTube channel. Advisors with Face Type Diagnosis qualifications wanted clear content to explain “This is what Face Type Diagnosis is.”
Our specific goal is “30,000 subscribers,” with an initial milestone of 10,000 subscribers, which we are about to achieve.
Editing videos was new to us. We didn’t know where to start.
— How did you incorporate Mass Driver’s YouTube consulting services?
Ms. Okada:
We decided to start a YouTube channel and first reached out to close colleagues. One was eager to work in a creative field, so we quickly decided to start together.
We had no experience with video distribution or editing. We didn’t know where to begin, so we consulted Mass Driver, who we knew from their ad management services, and they introduced us to Yukako Makino.
We prepared our own equipment and began filming. We had many ideas and potential cast members, but editing was a bottleneck. With Yukako’s help, we were able to launch our YouTube channel.
Yukako:
For the first three months, I was involved in not only planning but also mainly editing. I edited the data shot by Ms. Okada and provided the completed videos. I handled all aspects of the editing process, including creating thumbnails and subtitles.
Editing has several key points, such as providing a pre-explanation for viewers with no prior information, starting with a greeting, and balancing content between broadly appealing and niche topics.
Ms. Okada:
Learning these points while being guided was very educational for us.
Confidence in entrusting the work and achieving visible results
— What results did you expect from Mass Driver’s YouTube consulting services?
Ms. Okada:
Firstly, we wanted to launch the YouTube channel with confidence. Actually doing it made us realize how easy it could be, which was impressive. Besides increasing subscribers, we aimed to grow fans of Face Type Diagnosis and increase its recognition.
Seeing a steady increase in subscribers is one achievement, but hearing many people say “I watch your YouTube channel” and receiving encouraging feedback like “I always look forward to it” and “It’s very helpful” is very motivating.
Yukako:
While we plan and analyze our content carefully, there’s an element of unpredictability with YouTube. Initially, Ms. Okada and her team wanted everything to be perfect before posting, but now they are more willing to take on challenges with an “80% is good enough, let’s publish it” mindset, which has contributed to our success.
Ms. Okada:
I feel reassured by leaving everything to Ms. Makino and being encouraged to overcome the hurdle of “having to produce perfect content.”
We might have been able to start on our own, but it would have required immense time and effort. Many people around me started YouTube but struggled with low numbers and eventually gave up.
People often assume that good content alone will yield results, but we realized that thumbnails, word choices, and editing significantly impact success.
— What are the unique benefits of Mass Driver’s services?
Ms. Okada:
We gain sharp insights and precise advice based on calm analysis. The professional perspective provides continuous learning and personal growth.
Yukako:
Having run my own YouTube channel, “DefuSapo Channel,” for almost three years with 110,000 subscribers, I understand the challenges and failures involved. Good content needs compelling thumbnails and titles to attract clicks.
In this case, featuring Ms. Okada as the main figure would have been simpler for gaining subscribers, but we focused on positioning it as the official channel of the Face Type Diagnosis Association.
Balancing entertainment with official content was challenging. Being too serious or providing too much initial information could cause viewers to leave, but some explanation is necessary.
Achieving Results with YouTube Management: The Shortest and Best Method
— What was the biggest realization from Mass Driver’s YouTube consulting services?
Ms. Okada:
There were many realizations. Specific editing methods, the importance of retaining viewers, and shooting techniques based on editing advice were all invaluable.
The analysis results also provided significant insights, highlighting the vast difference between having professional support and not. This guidance has transformed our thinking.
Consulting services have been a shortcut to achieving results, saving us a lot of time. There is plenty of information on YouTube theories and methods, but finding the right approach for our purposes is challenging. The consulting provided the “shortest and best method for us” based on expert knowledge, leading to many discoveries.
— What are your future expectations for Mass Driver’s YouTube consulting services?
Ms. Okada:
We hope to continue working together to introduce Face Type Diagnosis to more people. While we have increased viewership among those already familiar with Face Type Diagnosis, we aim to attract new fans. We want to enhance our branding with quality content and balanced growth. Eventually, we’d like to explore collaboration projects.
Yukako:
As the official channel of the association, we will continue to carefully plan and select our projects. This discussion has sparked some new ideas, like sharing Ms. Okada’s background and the association’s establishment through interviews.
Ms. Okada:
In the future, we hope that “taking a Face Type Diagnosis after high school graduation” becomes a norm. Japan, especially its youth, has low self-esteem compared to the rest of the world. Face Type Diagnosis can help improve self-esteem by encouraging individuals to understand and accept themselves, leading to greater personal happiness and acceptance of others.
Understanding one’s strengths through Face Type Diagnosis can foster mutual recognition and potentially transform society. We hope that Face Type Diagnosis can be used not just for fashion, but also as a tool to boost self-esteem and create a chain of happiness.
